There have been several reports that Supernatural’s Jensen Ackles is not on the current short list of  Captain America candidates to be tested because of scheduling conflicts.

Today, thanks to The Hollywood Reporter, we have a list of six candidates who are on Marvel’s shortlist for the lead role. These candidates are John Krasinski (THE OFFICE), Scott Porter (FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS and SPEED RACER), Mike Vogel (CLOVERFIELD and THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE) Michael Cassidy (SMALLVILLE), and Patrick Flueger (THE 4400 and BROTHERS).  Chace Crawford (GOSSIP GIRL and the upcoming TWELVE) is expected to test screen in the next week and Garret Hedlund (TRON LEGACY), who has already tested, had to remove his name from the list due to scheduling conflicts. Scheduling issues also kept SUPERNATURAL’s Jensen Ackles off the final list.

There’s no confirmation, but it has been reported that Supernatural’s Jensen Ackles auditioned for  Captain America and is being considered a candidate for the role.  The movie, The First Avenger: Captain America, is set for release on July 22, 2012.

AMONG the news that recently emerged on the Captain America movie, director Joe Johnston did give away some casting details.

He said they were looking for a “complete unknown” and also explained: “We’re testing five or six guys. The youngest is 23, the oldest is 32. Most of the guys in the war are just kids, 18 or 19, but we want to go a little bit older.”  Since those remarks, the website Big Shiny Robot has published a piece citing a source who claims to know the names of three of the candidates: Chad Michael Murray (One Tree Hill), Ryan McPartlin (Chuck) and Jensen Ackles (Supernatural).

Supernatural Magazine issue #14  features an interview with Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki.

When Jared and Jensen are working those kinds of hours in the mindset of brothers who are trying to stop the apocalypse while dealing with their dysfunctional relationship and coping with the fact that the blood of all humankind could be on their hands due to the roles they played in freeing Lucifer, the enormity of it all can be rather “exhausting,” Ackles confirmed. “It’s been an exhausting season so far.”

Supernatural’s Jensen Ackles  will be the voice of Red Hood on the new animated Batman DVD,  “Batman: Under the Red Hood”.  Based on the 2005 comics story line, Batman will be fighting another vigilante, Red Hood.

The LA Times is reporting that another new Batman animated DVD is in the works based on a 2005 fan favorite story in which the titular hero fights yet another vigilante, Red Hood, who “doesn’t mind cleaning up Gotham by leaving dead bodies in his wake.” Normally this isn’t the kind of thing that a TV Insider would report, except two very special (and very popular!) television stars are attached to voice characters.   Read more here.
